Book Review: Pretties (Uglies, #2) by Scott Westerfeld

PrettiesTitle: Pretties

Author: Scott Westerfeld

Summary: Gorgeous. Popular. Perfect. Perfectly wrong.

Tally has finally become pretty. Now her looks are beyond perfect, her clothes are awesome, her boyfriend is totally hot, and she’s completely popular. It’s everything she’s ever wanted.

But beneath all the fun — the nonstop parties, the high-tech luxury, the total freedom — is a nagging sense that something’s wrong. Something important. Then a message from Tally’s ugly past arrives. Reading it, Tally remembers what’s wrong with pretty life, and the fun stops cold.

Now she has to choose between fighting to forget what she knows and fighting for her life — because the authorities don’t intend to let anyone with this information survive. -Goodreads

Review:

Sooo… Uglies wasn’t exactly a “fun” journey for me.  But, I saw Pretties sitting on a shelf at the library and I thought, “What the heck?  Why not?”  So I, um… I got it.

The beginning completely and totally bored me.

I think what really annoyed me was the third person narration.  It really bugged me throughout part of the book.  Maybe if Tally was narrating it would have been better…?

The word ‘bogus’ was used so much, it got on my nerves.

I knew I hated Shay.  Now, I know why.  She made everything about herself and didn’t stop to think about anything.  It was all, memememememememe!  Gods, it was annoying in Uglies and it was annoying in Pretties, too.

I.  Don’t.  Like.  David.

The story definitely got more interesting when Tally received the letter from herself and blankety blank blank blanked.  BWAHAHAHA!!!  Anywho, I’m glad I didn’t stop reading in the beginning.

I really enjoyed the Tally/Zane relationship!!!  It was great and awesome and “bubbly.”  Zane was way better than David.  But… why do I feel a love triangle coming on?!  NOOO!!!

Worst/Saddest Line: “Tally!”  He [Peris] grabbed her hand.  “You could die!  I don’t want to lose you…”

“You already have.”

*Bawls*  That was so sad!!!

And then something happened towards the end and I was all, “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!”

I wasn’t sure I wanted to read Specials, but OMG after that epicsauce ending, I need Specials.

3/5 stars… but an extra star for that ending, so…

4/5 stars : )
