My Summer Playlist

Hey, everyone!  So, summer approaches—the school year is coming to an end (or some of you may already be done with school), the temperature is rising, and we are freeeeee!… for unlimited time on the Internet and reading and stuff… Just kidding!

Anyway, the idea struck me the other day to create a summer playlist, as I was listening to some summer-esque songs, and couldn’t help myself!  So I created a playlist on Spotify called Summer 2014 Playlist, so check that out if you want!  I’ll definitely be adding to it, so it’s going to blossom 😀 (Note that not all of these songs were released in 2014.  I just thought they had that summery vibe :D)

The only thing is, you’ve got to have a Spotify account to listen DX  I wish that weren’t the case, but oh, well.  If you do have a Spotify account and you want to listen to my playlist, tell me what you think!

For those of you who don’t have a Spotify account but would like to know some songs on the playlist, I’ll tell you a few of them!

EDIT: I remembered I have an 8tracks account and was able to put most of the songs from my original Summer 2014 Playlist onto another playlist over on 8tracks.  I wasn’t able to get all of the songs, but most of them are there!  You can listen to it here, and it isn’t required to have an account to listen to it 😀  I hope you enjoy!

Before making this playlist, I made a list of songs, which I found by listening to my local alternative station (which I haven’t listened to in forever—I don’t really listen to the radio much), Pandora, Songza, and iHeartRadio.  Then, I made the playlist.  I discovered quite a few artists that I’d never heard of, or that I had heard of, but had never checked out.

For my playlist, I have them mentally divided into daytime/afternoon songs and evening/nighttime songs.  Lol, I don’t know why, but that’s just how I roll XD

1. “Terrible Love” by Birdy — I had heard of Birdy before, but I’d never checked out her music.  IT’S WONDERFUL, OMG.  I have a few Birdy songs on this playlist.  I love her sound, it’s very mellow.  I’d probably consider this an afternoon song… but maybe like a gray summer afternoon…

2. “That’s Not My Name” by The Ting Tings — I remember this song from YEARS ago!  It totally brings back memories.  I remember my friends and I were into this song when it came out.  And we could barely understand the lyrics.  In fact, I only just looked up the lyrics for the first time yesterday, lol.  Good times 😀  Anyway, I find this song more of a daytime song.

3. “Sail” by AWOLNATION — A night song, definitely!  I remember when this came out, I was SO SICK of it because the radio stations would not stop playing it!  That’s part of the reason I’m not that into Lorde, though I do have one of her songs on my playlist.

4. “Bangarang” by Skrillex — I’ve heard of Skrillex, but I’ve never really been into his music.  This is the only song I really like by him.  I can’t decide if this is a daytime song or a nighttime song… I think it’s got both a night and day feel.  What do you think?  (Or am I weird for categorizing music by times of the day?  XD)

5. “My Sweet Summer” by The Dirty Heads — I only know one other Dirty Heads songs, “Lay Me Down,” which I think is another summery song.  I only just heard “My Sweet Summer” and I think it’s fitting for this playlist, haha.  I think this is more of a night song.

6. “Goddess” by Banks — I discovered Banks from her song, “Waiting Game.”  I really love that song, and I think this song is just as awesome.  It’s got a slower beat, which I like.  In my opinion, it’s another night song XD

7. “Heads Will Roll” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs — I love this song.  Abfab, mah friends.  It’s great!  It’s got more of an electric feel.  Kinda dance-y.  Though the lyrics are a bit odd… This is a night song.

8. “Big Jet Plane” by Angus & Julia Stone — I was first introduced to this song on my favorite radio station months ago, and it’s just so peaceful and mellow.  I feel like I’m slowly getting more and more into peaceful songs, though I still enjoy my Three Days Grace and Halestorm 😀  “Big Jet Plane” has an afternoon feel, I think.  It’s really pretty ^.^

9. “Do You Love Me Like You Used To” by Best Coast — I discovered Best Coast back in March when I heard their song “When I’m With You.”  They have a beachy sound, which I’m really enjoying.  It kind of reminds me of Gidget (if y’all have ever watched that show).  Daytime song!

10. “Back to the River” by Lily & Madeleine — Okay, this song—IT’S SO PRETTY.  I love the sound.  It’s, once again, very mellow and relaxing.  I could listen to this song over and over… well, maybe not, because then I wouldn’t like it, but you get my point, lol.  I think this is an evening song.

I think I have a thing for “night” songs!  Or that may just be because I prefer night to day for some reason.

Another song I’d add to this playlist is “In The Dark” by JoJo (I’ve been a fan of hers for years), but I, unfortunately, can’t add this to the playlist because it’s not available on Spotify.  I haven’t heard this song since it came out a few years ago, but I reeeeeallllly like it 😀

Well, that’s all for now!  What do you think of my choices?  Do you recognize any of these songs or artists?  What songs would be on your summer playlist?  Let me know!

New Discoveries

SoothingI feel like I’ve been talking about music a lot lately (probably because I have), but here I am, to talk about more music 😀  This music is kind of different, though.  I find it calming, more calming that what I normally listen to.  I’m not saying that what I normally listen to isn’t calming (for me), but sometimes I just want to chill without all the loud guitars and angsty lyrics (though I do love my angsty lyrics, haha).  I found a new playlist on Spotify that provides just that—peaceful music to listen to.  I could totally imagine that cabin in the photo when I listen to this.  It’s awesome.  Kind of melancholic.

I believe the playlist is called “Smooth Morning,” or something along those lines.  I’m going to tell you about a few of the songs on that playlist.  Plus, I think the lyrics are ah-mahhh-zing.  I had to be a little picky and choosy with the music I selected for this post, because I couldn’t find the lyrics for some of the songs D:

I also think the lyrics in these songs would be excellent writing prompts… hmm…

1. “If The Creek Don’t Rise” by Dylan LeBlanc — I really, really love this song.  It’s so… slow.  I don’t know if y’all have heard of it, but it’s pretty darn awesome.  And I found the lyrics to be nice, too:

“I try to untie the knot, but it’s tied pretty tight
Oh, that knot in your heart when you left that night.”

2. “Open” by Rhye — This song actually has a music video!  Which surprised me, because I get the feel that not many people know this music :/ I don’t know.  Maybe it’s just me…

“Caught in this pool held in your eyes
Caught like a fool without a line
We’re in a natural spring
With this gentle sting between us.”

3. “More Than Nothing” by Mansions On The Moon, feat. Codi Caraco — First of all, the cover art for this album is GORGEOUS.  OMG.  I love it.  Second, I nearly flipped out when I realized this song reminded me of Never Fade.  I was like OMG, RUBY!!!

“If I could turn back the hands of the clock
I’d make my shaky hands steady as a rock
And I’d become more than nothing to you.”

4. “Before the Colors Fade” by Iris DeMent — I couldn’t find anything other than this live video, but Iris DeMent sounds pretty good in the video 😀  It’s a really pretty song.  I feel like it’s a little bit country music-ish… I don’t know.  Her voice has this twang that I like XD

“Before the colors fade from view
I sit alone remembering you
And all those things you’d say and do
And the feel of being next to you.”

5. “Collapse” by Vancouver Sleep Clinic — This might be my favorite song from the list.  I love it!  I don’t know what it is…

“Because never again
Means none of this at all
Forever pretend
In our shelters, we don’t fall.”

That’s all I’m going to say for now.  I know I could ramble about this music for a while ;D  So, listen to it!  Tell me what you think!  I totally think these lyrics could be used as writing prompts.  It’s already got my creative writing muscles going crazy, haha!

More next time,

The Playlist of My Childhood

Since posting about music remixes and their originals, a few of the remixes left me feeling nostalgic for the music I listened to when I was younger.  Sooooo… I made a playlist of my childhood!  I’d forgotten about a lot of these songs and it was so great to go back and listen to all of them.  They’re not exactly old, but it’s what I listened to when I was younger.

Anyway!  This playlist is on Spotify, which is one of the greatest Internet radios I’ve ever used 😀  You can find the playlist here.

The downside of my playlist being on Spotify is that you must have a Spotify account in order to listen to it.  Le sigh.  If you do listen to the playlist, do you recognize any of these songs?

For those of you who don’t have a Spotify but are still curious about the songs on my playlist, here are a few of the songs that live in there:

1. “Cool” by Gwen Stefani

2. “All Around The World” by ATC

3. “Breathless” by The Corrs

4. “Jenny From The Block” by Jennifer Lopez

5. “Lucky” by Britney Spears

6. “Cha Cha Slide” by Mr. C The Slide Man

7. “Everytime We Touch” by Cascada — I was so obsessed with the music video for this song!  I think I played it every time it was “my turn” for the computer XD

8. “Hips Don’t Lie” by Shakira — I know—weird song to have on a childhood playlist, lol.  But I remember hearing this song a lot.

9. “She Will Be Loved” by Maroon 5

10. “Jumpin’, Jumpin'” by Destiny’s Child

So those are some songs on that playlist!  I realize now that I know a lot more Britney Spears than I thought… O_o

That’s all for now!  What are some songs you’d put on your childhood playlist?

Favorite Songs: Week 3

Hey, guys!!!  How was your weekend?  Mine was good : )  I finished a book called The Shadow Girl by Jennifer Archer.  A review will be posted soon.  I know I haven’t posted a review in a while (since 07/17/13), but hopefully I’ll get back on my feet and finish up all the books I’ve started!

I also had a really good lunch on Saturday, so I’ll post about that, too!

I picked up Delirium by Lauren Oliver, which I tried to read a little while ago but never fully got into it.  So… I hope it’s good.  I also picked up City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3) which was at my library, surprisingly.  I can never find Cassandra Clare’s books at my library because they’re so popular!  I usually have to order them and wait for people.  So, I was really happy that the library had the next book I needed to continue the series : )

Yesterday night, I was cracking up at The Dick Van Dyke show.  I was watching it on Hulu because I haven’t seen it in forever.  I’m pretty sure I’ve seen every episode available on Hulu, but it still made me laugh.  Kinda like I Love Lucy.

OH, and my one year blogiversary is coming up on August 2, 2013!!!

And now, my favorite songs:

  1. I Don’t Care by Apocalyptica**
  2. Shadows by Red
  3. Behind Blue Eyes by Limp Bizkit
